Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory is that of finding an instrument in her attic and becoming enthralled by the sounds it would create. The parents of her May-Britt family and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to pursue music not as a career or hobby but as a way to develop. Her parents encouraged her to compose. She cites renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences as well as a love for Bjork's style. Her mom encouraged her to play her songs in public, not to be famous, but to let others know the importance of their work and what they can do for the world. The piano was first played by her when she was six years old and began writing music by the time she was nine. The fact that she was a musician wasn't known to her family until she turned fourteen. Aurora did not have a set goal. Her only passion is to write music. The music she writes is how she feels about everything.
